When Men Cry for Joy...

Posted by Betty and Dan on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, In : Dan's Blogs
The earth is a magnificent place. Think Swiss Alps, red autumn leaves, the scent of frangiapanni in the air, ripe mangoes. It's people who are the problem. Hurt, depressed, vengeful, they replay their hurt on one another over and over, incessantly, hoping against hope that someone, somewhere will save them from themselves. Is a better world possible when so much pain is circulating around in ever widening spirals? Is our fate that of a magnificent world of damaged Conan the Barbarians where t...

Bollywood Movie!

Posted by Betty and Dan on Monday, June 17, 2013, In : Betty's Blogs
Good evening!  happy Father's Day!

My husband and I recently enjoy watching Bollywood movies.  According to wikipedia, "Bollywood is the informal term popularly used for the Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai (Bombay), Maharashtra, India".

We watched three Bollywood movies so far.  They are dancing and love stories.  Three stories based on what love is,

We watched "Dil To Pagal Hai", dancing and love story.  What is true love?  The story is dancing and love and happy end.
The dancing

Blueberries Forever

Posted by Betty and Dan on Monday, June 17, 2013, In : Dan's Blogs
For some, it's money. For others it's steak and potatoes. For me, an Alaskan sourdough at hear, it has to be blueberries forever!  I recall hiking the sunny but misty rolling mountains north of Anchorage where I grew up. My three favorite things then were Ted (my very best friend), fishing, and, yet, blueberries. Sometimes Ted and I would hike the hills searching for blueberries, and when they were there, the whole mountainside would be covered with them. Little tiny one, intensely blue, ofte...

Everything is information, but not all information has meaning. I have been collecting meaningful information that is new to me. Here's some I would like to share with you:

XXXX - this means "many kisses" -- I like this one especially)
LoL -- this means "lots of love" (I think; anyway I've decided this is what it means)
>>------> - this is "Cupid's arrow;" it means I can't help but love you
:-) - this is a "smiley face" and means I'm happy
;-) - this is a wink; it means we share a secret together...

True Love!

Posted by Betty and Dan on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, In : Betty's Blogs

My husband and I watched an India movie about true love called "Hum-Tum!"  This was not a serious movie, and, while we talked about it, I took my dictionary and searched "true" and "love."

The definition of  true and love: True is never false, it is based on facts and not imagined or invented.  Also true is the real value, all the right qualities.

Love, on the other hand, is caring very much about someone, having a strong feeling of caring for and liking someone. This, combined with sexua...

You've heard it all: Hollywood, Bollywood, and now Follywood. What do I mean by Follywood? Ten years ago, it was already clear to me that producers and financiers, who together ultimately select what will be brought to the silver screen, had abdicated and moved to another planet. One where violence exists in the extreme (the "Conan" myth), where success in amoral pursuit of money is the measure of personal worth (the "Pirate" syndrome), and nothing at all can happen without the latest in whiz...

My Husband, Dan!

Posted by Betty and Dan on Friday, June 7, 2013, In : Betty's Blogs

I write in English tonight, too.  When I went to my interview, I realized that I want to improve English more so I tried to write my Blog in English.  This is challenging for me and how much I can write it in English.
May be I will write my Blog in Japanese tomorrow.  I already am tired to write my Blog in English.

Today, I write about part one of my husband.  Dan,
American, my husband and I met in California (CA). When my lady friend and I went to social dance class at YMCA in Berkeley CA...

Poetically Perfect

Posted by Betty and Dan on Friday, June 7, 2013, In : Dan's Blogs
Although I'm a prose writer by profession, I've always been a poet at heart. Maybe at the heart of every good prose writer is a poet. Whatever, I began writing poetry at 12 years of age and have been writing ever since. In undergraduate college I wrote a poem called "Everyway" which won many honors and is one of my favorite to this day. Then came "Water Faucet Man" and many others, eventually collected in three editions: (1) "Footprints, Smiles and Little White Lies," (2) "The Illustrated Mid...

I went to my interview for my new job.
I checked the location where I will have my interview.
Place was a kind of unusual, so I checked it by internet.
I was getting nervous. and I told my husband.
"I am nervous and scared."
My husband said, "You will receive your interview.  That means they will interview you, but also you can interview them."
"AHA!"  I suddenly didn't feel nervous.
What questions should I ask them, I wondered.
I didn't have any more time to get nervous, and suddenly the...

Fowl Weather

Posted by Betty and Dan on Thursday, June 6, 2013, In : Dan's Blogs
Betty and I moved to Hawaii in 1993, and for the next 14 years (7 x 2) the weather here has been warmer, surprisingly with less rain. In 1993, the pattern was, starting in January, cool and dry, slowly warming and getting more humid to September, when it was very humid and very hot. Then the rains would come. Tropical storms with occasional hurricanes the dumped so much water at a time, we sometimes had to stop driving, being unable to see anything several feet in front of the windshield. Now...

Foot Dressing

Posted by Betty and Dan on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, In : Dan's Blogs
When it comes to dressing, the feet have it! Where twenty years ago, shoes were shoes, and there was little difference from one men's brand to another, now there's foot dressing for every mood and occasion.

For instance, there's "flash shoes," that flash bright lights every time one walks, calling attention to one's presence. "To shine like a light" was an achievable goal at last!

Then there's "rock shoes," with their curved bottoms and "natural" appeal. What could be better than natural shoes...

Do people really control "the economy?" Does "the economy" control us? Or is "the economy" simply justification for doing whatever "we" -- the government, corporations or the people -- want?

The first problem with the idea of being able to "control the economy" is that "money," it's basic currency, has become an illusion. Money is only "real" to those who believe they possess it, or "don't have enough." In the end, "not enough money" is an excuse for not doing something. There is always enoug...

Going Apple Bananas!

Posted by Betty and Dan on Saturday, June 1, 2013, In : Dan's Blogs
A banana is a banana is a banana, right? I used to think that when I lived on the mainland (contiguous 48 U. S. states), but when I moved to Hawaii I learned different. Hawaii has: plantains, commercial bananas, baby commercial bananas, organic bananas, ice cream banana and apple bananas. Of the them all, apple bananas are my favorite.

Apple bananas are "local" fare. They're smaller, firmer, and slightly orange-red when bitten into. They have a crisp, clean taste (the way apples do) with no h...
