I like to bake bread, especially during this stay-at-home time. Last week, we ran out of milk -- fresh and powdered -- and I didn't want to go out to a supermarket during this high-risk COVID-19 week just for milk for bread. Calling around, I was disappointed to learn that all our local drive-by-and-pickup grocery stores were out of it. Out. None. Nada.

So, I turned to the trusty internet. Powdered milk was being advertised everywhere, but each time I attempted to order it, it was "temporarily out" or "backordered." Then I ran across an add for "Milkman" powdered milk. I remember Milkman from decades ago (I thought it had gone out of business), and was happily surprised that it was back in business and actually had powdered milk. 

I ordered two packets and three days later (thats FAST for Hawaii), received two packets of Milkman powdered milk. Yay! After assembling all the necessary ingredients, I poured the flour and sugar into my trusty Panasonic breadmaker. When I added the powdered milk, to my surprise it was BROWN in color. You guessed it: CHOCOLATE powdered milk. I quickly reordered some definitely WHITE powdered milk, but was at a loss as to what to do about the assembled ingredients. My partner grinned and suggested we try making chocolate bread. Hmmm. Still, intriguing...

To my surprise, our chocolate bread had a rich brown color and even richer taste. Especially when toasted. Yum! But the best surprise was when we made chocolate bread French toast the next morning. Double yummy. Triple yummy with organic Vermont maple syrup. 

While I can't recommend homemade chocolate bread on an everyday basis, I can recommend it without reservation for an occasional treat, especially next morning as French toast. 

チョコレートブレッド、チョコレートブレッド、フレンチトースト

私はパンを焼くのが好きです。特にこの外出禁止令が出ているこの時に、、、。
先週、新鮮な粉ミルクがなくなりました。このとても危険なCOVID-19 (コロナー１９)
外出禁止令の間、パンを作る為に牛乳だけをスーパーに購入しに行きたくありませんでした。色々な食料品店に商品を予約して車で受け取りに行こうと電話したけれど全て売りていてがっかり!! 売り切れ！無し！無し（Spanish)!

そこで、信頼できるインターネットの会社に目を向けました。粉ミルクはどこでも宣伝されていましたが、注文しようとする度に、「一時的に出荷不可」または「入荷待ち」でした。次に、「ミルクマン」の粉ミルクを見つけました。私は数十年前からミルクマンを知っていて（今は、廃業したと思っていましたが、、）廃業していたけど、実際には、粉ミルクがの在庫があった事を嬉しく思いました。

早速、私は2袋を注文し、3日後（ハワイではFAST）、ミルクマンの粉ミルクを2つ受け取りました。わーい！必要な材料をすべて集めた後、私は小麦粉と砂糖を信頼できるパナソニック製パンメーカーに注ぎました。粉ミルクを加えたところ、驚いたことに茶色がかった色でした。貴方は其れが何か予測出来ますか？　チョコレート粉ミルク！　私は白い普通の粉ミルクを注文したはずなのに、、。すぐ粉ミルクを再注文しました、しかしチョコレート粉ミルクを使って何をすべきか途方に暮れていました。
私のパートナーはにっこりしてチョコレートパンを作ってみたら？って提案してくれました。うーん。それも、興味深いね…

驚いたことに、チョコレートブレッドは濃い茶色の色ととてもぽ美味しい味がしました。特にトーストした時。ヤム（美味しい）！しかし、一番の驚いたのは、翌朝、チョコレートパンをフレンチトーストにした時でした。ダブルにおいしい。オーガニックバーモントメープルシロップをかけたらトリプルにおいしい。

私は自家製チョコレートパンを毎日お勧めすることはできませんが、、特に翌朝のフレンチトースト、時々思いがけないご馳走としてお勧めできます。
