Miss Fisher's relationship with Detective Inspector John "Jack" Robinson develops during the movie as it only could, with Jack playing her Dr. Watson, the private female detective taking residence in Melbourne, Australia 221B, The Esplanade. But where Sherlock Holmes, by his own intention and admission is a "sociopath" without emotion, Miss Fisher is everything but.
Sherlock's ideal female is the luminous Irene Adler though he lives with Dr. John Watson on a day-to day-basis. The long awaited movie was all I expected, though I felt that Essie Davis and Nathan Page would easily be capable of carrying off a more mature and dramatic production. As dancers, the music and costumes from the 1920s is always a high point of the TV episodes and cinematic production. I look forward to the next movie in what I personally hope will prove a long and rewarding series of cinematic adventures.
